Walk in the Light

Min. Gerard Pierre

Psalm 119:105-106-Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws.

There is a difference between light and darkness. In saying the words, “your word is a lamp into my feet,” the Psalmist is acknowledging that as he walks the road of life, which is dark, but God’s word makes his steps illuminated. It’s possible to walk the path of life not knowing if our steps will fall on good ground, or on dangerous ground, but the scripture reminds us that God’s words will be a lamp to our feet. The Bible should help us walk the way God wants us to walk.

There are many ways in life and in this world that we can walk, many of those ways are easier than other. So, how is a Christian supposed to walk? Well…

  • Ephesians 4:1-we should walk worthy
  • Isaiah 57:2-we should walk uprightly
  • 1 John 1:7-we should walk in the light
  • Micah 6:8-we should walk humbly

These are just a few mentions of how we should walk, but none of this is possible without the compass and that we find in the WORD of God. The Psalmist explains that the word is a light into my path. That means that the word of God not only shows us but actually sheds LIGHT ON the places where our feet should step and which path we should remain on!

We need the Bible to teach us! God has not left us without direction, His voice, or His presence. If we want to hear His voice we need to start with TIME IN HIS WORD!!

In the earlier verses 103 and 104, the Psalmist declares that the word of God is sweet, in fact, it’s so sweet, that it is sweeter than honey in the honeycomb! Now when I read that I ponder how I love sweet things like: Ice cream and banana pudding. The more I eat them the more I want some more. It’s ironic to reflect on this as we are fasting, but we know the taste of something sweet and in this season we may be missing something sweet, BUT run to the WORD, I promise you, it’s even sweeter!

In conclusion, today, let’s thank our God for His WORD, the lamp that guides our feet, and the light that illuminates our path. Amen.
